Adams Morgan Day Festival September 14th

By Claire Goldman

One of the many delights of DC, is the opportunity to change your scenery with just the journey of a few blocks.  The personalities of DC's neighborhoods are what make this city one of the best in the world.  So why not celebrate one of the best 'hoods' with food, fashion and live music?!  For the 36th year -  The Adams Morgan Day Festival invites you to their kind of party!

On Sunday, September14, 2014, from Noon to 7 PM, Adams Morgan Main Street Group is putting on the annual street festival which will shut down 18th Street, swapping cars for vendor tents and a stage.  Featured food tents this year include Regent Thai, Sherri's Crab Cakes, Fresh Fruit Cup, Luke's Lobster and Himalayan Heritage.

Also not to be missed are the unique clothing, jewelry and art vendors who set up shop for the day.  This a great opportunity to see what DC's burgeoning cottage industry has to offer and pick up one of a kind items for yourself and as gifts.

One vendor is an up-and-coming t-shirt designer whose DC-centric shirts you may have seen at local retailers.  Freddy van der Baugh, the mind behind Freddy van der Baugh:  Clothier and Kitsch-monger, when asked for a quote, says "This is art for art's sake, unless I get rich today, then I retire".  A closer look at his t-shirts reveals a new way to look at Christmas:  namely, what does it mean to "Have a very merry Christmas?"  Mr. van der Baugh purports to answer that question, and it is screen-printed on a first run, debut batch of  t-shirts ($26/each) and  hoodies ($80/each).  Sounds strange in September, but trust me, these will go fast.  Stop by the Freddy van der Baugh booth to discover a unique perspective on Christmas...DC style.  Freddy also is famous for his DC flag t-shirts  and new onesies for babies which have been a fan favorite.  Mr. van der Baugh will also be rolling out his tandem bike rental service at the festival.  This includes a rare Bike Friday Tandem Tuesday which is excellent for twosomes on the go as the bike breaks down and packs into two regulation suit bases for the cycle-loving travelers.

Also featured at the Freddy van der Baugh tent will be our favorite all natural, non toxic insect repellent from Naked Botanicals.  With a pleasant smell, the spray is safe and works like a charm for kids and adults.

Enjoy live music, dance performances and activities for the kids. There is definitely something for everyone at the Adams Morgan Day Festival, I know I will be out there celebrating one of the best neighborhoods in the District!
