Oktoberfest at Roofer's Union

Hofbrau Oktoberfestbier
By Claire Goldman

Tis the season for strapping on your lederhosen, clanking liter mugs and gobbling up schnitzel and brats!  Oktoberfest starts on September 20th and Roofers Union is bringing the tastes of Deutschland to DC.

Beer Director Dave Delaplaine and Executive Chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley, who have been working together for years at Ripple, have teamed up to create an Oktoberfest three-course prix fixe menu with optional (and recommended) beer pairings available September 20th through October 5th.

Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad

Cheese & Potato Pierogi
Port City Oktoberfest
While the Alexandria, VA Port City Oktoberfest is quite different than the Hofbrau, they are both Maerzen style beers (lager originating in Bavaria with malty flavor and clean finish).
Olive Oil Poached Cod with potato rosti, leeks, creme fraiche and caviar
The main course is served with the Legends Oktoberfest from Richmond, VA.
Poke Schnitzel with spatzle, sauerkraut and lemon
If you're feeling a little full mid schnitzel, box it up.  I highly recommend saving room for the German Chocolate Cake dessert, a parfait of vanila ice cream, whipped cream, delicious toasted coconut flakes and, of course, chocolate cake.

The Oktoberfest at Roofers Union will culminate in a swinging shindig on October 5th, complete with polka music and unlimited beer pairings.  This will definitely be an affair worth dusting off your dirndl.  Tickets are on sale now through the restaurant for $45.

Roofers Union will continue to serve their full food and beer menu concurrently with the Oktoberfest specials.  This includes their 22 draft beers that have been expertly curated by Delaplane.  Most of the taps are from local brewers, taking the effort out of a Mid-Atlantic Tour de Beer.  There are also pours from far off lands such as the Avery 13 Rumkin, a pumpkin beer aged in rum barrels from Colorado.  The 18th Street three-level eatery also offers daily happy hour food and drink specials.
