to win a $100 gift card to Cuba Libre. I recently checked out their Pop-up Paladares cooking series. Chef Guillermo Pernot invited a Cuban chef to his restaurant for us Washingtonians to experience an authentic Cuban meal. This dinner featured Chef
Alain Rivera Santana of Doctor Café. Located in the residential
neighborhood of Miramar, this ‘hidden gem’ is best known for its use of
charcoals, which gives the dishes its unique flavor. The four-course
menu, a collaborative creative effort of the two chefs, featuref
Merluza al Escabéche, fresh cod in vinegar-chile sauce with lamb tongue
and beet salad; Canelones de Cangrejo; fresh corn pasta cannelloni with
sweet crabmeat enchilado filling; Atún, grilled yellow fin tuna, Malta
honey reduction with ruby red grapefruit and lavender supremes; Sopa de
Mango, chilled mango soup, with Cuba Libre’s five-year-old rum ice
cream. For the perfect ending, w parted with petit fours as a
special take home. The mojitos are fantastic!
This past April, Chef Pernot led a group of 16 travelers on a cultural tour of Havana. Working with Insight Cuba, the leading provider of authorized people-to-people travel to Cuba for U.S. citizens, Chef Pernot, accompanied by his Cuban-born wife Lucia, whose relative was Cuba’s 3rd president, together hosted the trip. The trip filled so quickly that a second trip is on the horizon and slated for November 2012. To reserve a spot or for more information on how to join the next trip to Havana please email: cubatrip@cubalibrerestaurant.com.

My family and I used to live in Miami, and my dad loved all of the Cuban food. I would love to take him to Cuba Libre!
My dad always gives up what he wants so that my mom and I always get our way (we're spoiled). I know he likes Cuban food and we normally don't go, so this would be fun!
