Thinking of Drinking: The Artist

Get ready for an Oscar Night.  The Maple Old Fashioned is just like old Hollywood, but just like Best Picture Nominee, The Artist, we've put a modern twist on the old classic.

Maple Old Fashioned

1/4 ounce Wholesome maple agave syrup
1 tablespoon Cinnamon Simple Syrup
1 dash Angostura bitters
2 ounces Hudson 4-Grain Bourbon
Garnish:  maraschino cherry

Combine maple syrup, cinnamon syrup, and bitters in the bottom of an Old Fashioned glass and stir to mix. Fill glass with ice and add bourbon. Stir until cold. No garnish.

Cinnamon Simple Syrup

2 cups sugar

2 cups water
2 cinnamon sticks

Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves and then remove from heat. Add cinnamon sticks and cool. Store in a clear glass bottle or jar with a tight fitting lid in the refrigerator.

Could you use plain old maple syrup for this? I hate the idea of going out and buying something like agave maple syrup that I might not use for anything else.

Oh yeah, maple syrup will work great. I just had the maple agave, so I used that... but I'm sure maple syrup will be equally delicious!
